Weald Country Park - 2005. The first full event we
attended. The event takes place at Weald Country Park near Brentwood in Essex
(UK) over 3 days of the late May Bank Holiday Weald is a very large Country
Park with plenty of room for the battle and archery Competition. The Medieval
village was in a secluded spot with a great atmosphere. If you are in the area
try and get along for 2006 |
 |
Twinwoods - 2005. This event is near Bedford and was the
first that we camped at - so we could enjoy the nightlife. Checkout the
pictures of the Star Wars light sabres shot in the dark. We are still waiting
for the full night time battle with light sabres flashing !! |
 |
Tewkesbury - 2005. A very big event with a large market
alongside. The battle had many different groups involved - just look at the
battle scenes. The high spot for many of us was the German pipe band Schelmish,
its hard to describe, but they were the entertainment we needed!!! - this is a
link to their website and we hope to see them in 2006 -
Schelmish!! |
 |
Huntingdon and Chigwell - 2005. Both smaller events
although we attended and took some pics |
 |
Michelham and Field Archery 2005 - I think some other
pics from Cressing medieval fare have crept in here as well |
 |
Herstmonceux Medieval Festival 2005 - a Medieval Siege
Society event and very well organized. 1000's of the public turned out to watch
us Siege the Castle and have a battle in the afternoons. We attended for a
total of 5 days, dressed up in full medieval kit and had a great time. Use of
the digital camera was a bit limited as its not really a 15th Century item!!.

Castle Headingham - April 2006. Only attended for Easter Sunday
and a little damp in the afternoon. James Shorey was presented with the Don
Dixon trophy for his archery prowess in 2005. He shot in nearly every
competition in 2005 and won quite a few. |
 |
Royal Gunpowder Mills 2006 - First time for a medieval event
run by the MSS at this site and pretty good. We would like more loos though. A
very large protected nature reserve and site of building associated with the
manufacture of explosives until the 1960's. The site is listed and therefore
even the derelict buildings must be left..er...derelict. Although we attended
Sun and Monday - the pictures are all from Monday - when we stayed dressed in
'civvies', |
 |
Weald Country Park 2006. Rather wet on the Saturday but
good weather on the Sunday. Some of this photos are at a low resolution - my
fault - I was tired after the archery competition in the morning. Martin the
blacksmith made a nice model wooden boat named the SSMSS...god bless all those
who sail in her. |
|
Weald Country Park 2006 - Link to the Pics taken on the
Monday.. Sunshine, hail, rain and thunder - the works. |

Ahhh!!!, the sun shone on Losely Park 2006 - a fantastic two
day event. Just what we needed after getting soaked the week before. |
 |
Twinwoods 2006 - Pics from the Saturday, lots of MSS members
made for a big battle, just needed a few more members of the public. |
 |
Sussex 2006 nr Balcombe. Nice location and good weather, public
attendance was a little low..but for us archers Chris and Dave S laid out a
fantastic course in the woodland - the consensus was that this was one of the
best ever. A lot of hard work went into creating it..thanks guys!! |
|
Hertsmonceax 2006 - despite worries over the weather it hardly
rained during the day at all and we had a great time. Check out the picture of
the Oxfords playing 'Croquet' on the lawn in front of the castle and my black
and white picture which take us back to the1920's. PHOTOS NOW REMOVED |

Groombridge - September 2006. Great weather for the MSS event.

longbow (?) that we managed to clout 140 paces..mind you it does pull at over
40lb |
|
Westenhanger - September 2006. A fantastic Saturday at this
brilliant location near Folkestone..no more dressing up this year as its the
last event for many of us..ahhhh..thanks to the 'Bonnies' and the whole of the
Medieval Siege Society for a great year |
 |
Archery Clout at Bodiam - October 2006. Notable for the failure
of a bow belonging to our buddy Kevin. he took 3rd place in the 100 pace clout
so maybe some small consolation then...oh alright, no consolation at all! |
 |
Battle of Hastings 940th Anniversary 2006. A very big
bash with lots of re-enactors and public, very hard to take pics of the main
battle so just a few on this gallery along with some MSS buddies |
 |
December 2006 clout shoot. The weather was very kind for the very last event of
2006. It was chilly but otherwise a lovely winters day. The end of my first
archery season and its been great fun. Roll on 2007. |
